Dr. Richard Baxter
Your Instructor
Dr. Richard Baxter is a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Laser Surgery who has performed tongue- and lip-tie procedures more than 7,000 times. He is an internationally recognized speaker on tongue-ties, and author of the best-selling book, Tongue-Tied: How a Tiny String Under the Tongue Impacts Nursing, Speech, Feeding, and More.
It wasn't until after Dr. Baxter's dental education and pediatric residency program that he discovered his own tongue-tie. The fact that he went undiagnosed for so long, even after being immersed in the dental field, helped him to recognize that others were living limited lives because of their tongue-ties too- including his three daughters. Now, he's on a mission to help educate providers and parents so that they can get the right treatment sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the difference between the full Tongue-Tied Academy and the LITE version?
The full Tongue-Tied Academy is designed for dentists, physicians, and others who wish to treat this population and perform the release procedure themselves. After having much interest in the course information from therapists, we decided to offer a LITE version that is more affordable but still contains lots of helpful and well-produced information. Please note this is a separate course, and you are not able to upgrade to the full course. If you are a dentist or physician and think you might want to treat this population in the future by releasing the tongue-tie, we highly recommend taking the full Tongue-Tied Academy.
-
Who is the course for?
Tongue-Tied Academy LITE is a shortened version of our flagship course, Tongue-Tied Academy, and is for speech therapists, myofunctional therapists, lactation consultants, and others who want to deepen their knowledge of this emerging field. It's perfect for those who regularly work with infants and children or those who want to expand their skills to work with this important population. Our goal is to ensure you are prepared to assess tongue-tied patients, identify and diagnose properly, and make treatment referrals with confidence.
-
Will I receive CE credits for this course?
We offer dental CE credits (ADA-CERP) for those who need verification of credits for licensure reasons. Just let us know after you finish the course, and we will happily provide them through our partnership with Affordable CE Credits who handles the paperwork. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide medical CME credits or other types of credits (speech, lactation, etc.) at this time.
-
Does this course teach about treating adults?
The main focus of this course is on infants, children, and adolescents, though we will discuss examining and diagnosing tongue-ties in adults to some extent. Through the course, we will show treatment techniques, discuss myofunctional therapy, and provide case studies and treatment videos, some of which will focus on adults. If you plan to treat adults, we would highly recommend viewing this course and Dr. Zaghi's Breathe Course.
